AI statement
I don’t use generative AI. I don’t use it to generate ideas, to write, to edit my writing, or to create or edit any of my images.
I’ve spent so much of my artistic life developing and honing my voice and aesthetic, and the thought of handing that stimulating, playful, hard, authentic work over to a robot is horrifying: if I’m not creating it myself, how can I call myself a creative? I like my brain and I like to exercise it.
Also:
- The large language models that enable AI were built through the purposeful, consistent and arrogant theft by tech companies of copyrighted material.
- AI has massive environmental impact, sucking up energy and water, and creating emissions.
- The Writers Union of Canada has great information about the impact of AI on creatives and actions you can take.
